Adaptive Solar Installation Systems
Adaptive solar installation systems are helping Distributed Energy Infrastructure (DEI) overcome difficult ground conditions at the 3.37 MWdc Sapphire Solar project in Jefferson County, New York. After discovering shallow bedrock and persistent groundwater, the company modified its original construction plans, replacing much of the underground electrical conduit with an above-ground cable system.
Shale bedrock was found just 16 to 20 inches beneath the surface, making conventional trenching impractical in several areas. DEI retained underground wiring where necessary while introducing alternative cable routing that preserves access for future maintenance. The redesign, material procurement, and installation were completed within the original schedule.
For solar developers, this approach demonstrates how adaptable construction methods can address unexpected site conditions without delaying project progress. DEI's coordinated engineering and field operations also highlight the importance of managing construction risks while maintaining long-term infrastructure reliability.
