Bhubaneswar Installs 10 Bus Stop Cooling Mechanisms for Commuters

The city of Bhubaneswar, India, through its Municipal Corporation, has launched new bus stops with reusable vetiver cooling screens as a way to help CRUT Bus queue's achieve relief during the hot summer days. Introduced under the Bhubaneswar Heat Prevention Action Plan, the natural vetiver grass screens have water sprinkling mechanisms that reduce heat levels without using energy-based cooling systems. There are officially 10 Cool Bus Stop facilities operating across Bhubaneswar, with plans for 20 more to be installed in the next few days.

The cooling system is apart of a larger goal to reduce the impacts of rising urban temperatures across India, with a specific focus on sustainable and reusable solutions. Bhubaneswar's civic body has also introduced other solutions that champion sustainability, including solar-powered drinkng water kiosks, shaded pedestrian spaces, rooftop heat-reflective coatings, and water facilities for stray animals.
