Energy-Efficient Desalination Systems

Energy Recovery Will Supply a New Saudi Desalination Plant

Energy Recovery has secured a contract to supply its PX Pressure Exchanger energy-efficient desalination technology to a new flagship seawater reverse osmosis plant under Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 program. The plant is expected to deliver drought-proof water to approximately one million people across Mecca, Al-Baha and Asir. Saudi Arabia relies on desalination for more than 70% of its potable water supply due to the country's lack of permanent rivers or lakes.

Energy Recovery's PX devices operate within the reverse osmosis process, reducing seawater desalination energy consumption by up to 60% while achieving up to 99% efficiency. Built with a single moving part and a 30-year design life, the technology is already deployed across major desalination plants worldwide.

Energy Recovery shows how energy-efficient desalination technology is becoming essential to making large-scale water security more affordable and environmentally sustainable.
