Youth EV Education Programs

ComEd's annual EV Rally is marking its 10th year with the largest group of participants in program history, bringing together 60 Illinois teens ages 13–18 to build electric go-karts while learning STEM principles alongside ComEd mentors. Across four pre-race events, students assemble their vehicles and complete educational challenges before racing at The Fields Studios in Chicago on August 1.

Each participating student receives a $1,000 scholarship upon completing the program, with many past participants going on to pursue additional scholarships, mentorships, internships and full-time careers through ComEd and parent company Exelon. Since launching as the Icebox Derby in 2014, the program has engaged more than 350 young people and awarded nearly $700,000 in scholarships supporting STEM education.

ComEd shows how hands-on EV education can turn youth engagement into a meaningful pathway toward STEM careers and the next generation of energy industry leaders.
