Managed EV charging enables public charging stations across Connecticut to become flexible grid resources by shifting electricity demand away from peak periods without disrupting the driver experience. AmpUp's Adapt & Earn platform allows EV drivers to receive automatic wallet credits in exchange for brief charging pauses during periods of high electricity demand, eliminating the need for additional hardware or complex enrollment. The 18-month pilot, conducted with Eversource Energy at approximately 200 locations throughout the state, demonstrated that managed charging across public and shared charging sites can reduce grid strain while maintaining high levels of driver participation and satisfaction.

This approach creates new opportunities for utilities to balance electricity demand using existing EV charging infrastructure instead of relying on costly peak power generation. Property owners, fleet operators and charging network providers can also benefit by participating in grid services while improving the value of their charging assets. As EV adoption accelerates, managed charging platforms can help build more resilient electricity systems while supporting lower-emission transportation and more efficient energy use.
