Renewable Energy Transition Roadmaps
MSEDCL Aims to Rely on 52% Green Energy by 2030
Colin Smith — November 12, 2025Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has outlined an Energy Transition Plan that targets increasing the share of renewables in its portfolio to 52% by 2030 through the integration of approximately 38 GW of clean capacity, alongside digital upgrades to improve system efficiency and reliability. The plan includes large-scale programmes such as a 16 GW Mukhyamantri Saur Krishi Vahini Yojana 2.0 for decentralised solar for agriculture, over 1 GW of rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and deployment of off‑grid solar pumps and village‑level solar schemes to expand access and reduce subsidy burdens.
Operational measures in the roadmap emphasise distribution loss reduction, smart metering, AI‑driven load forecasting, and real‑time monitoring to lower Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses toward a targeted 12% within five years, with the stated aim of generating cost savings and improving service delivery. MSEDCL also positions itself as the nodal agency for Maharashtra’s electric mobility mission, planning EV charging infrastructure development and a mix of efficiency and renewable investments intended to support the state’s decarbonisation and energy security objectives.
