Multi-Currency Green Bonds

Hong Kong Plans Its New Record HK$20 Billion Bond Sale

Hong Kong is seeking to raise HK$15 billion to HK$20 billion through a multi-currency digital green bond offering that would become the world's largest of its kind, denominated in U.S. dollars, Hong Kong dollars, euros and offshore yuan. The sale builds on the city's push to expand its tokenized bond market, using blockchain technology for issuance, trading and settlement.

The offering follows Hong Kong Mortgage Corp.'s HK$12 billion digital bond deal in June, previously the world's largest, as digital bonds issued in Hong Kong captured nearly 50% of the global market between 2025 and the first half of 2026. The government has pledged to regularize such issuances and is exploring blockchain-based processes for dividend payments and redemption.

Hong Kong's record-setting offering signals how blockchain-based bond markets are becoming a serious channel for financing climate-aligned infrastructure at scale.
