Green Finance Investment Milestones
Banco Santander has raised or facilitated €188 billion in green finance since 2019, surpassing 85% of its €220 billion 2030 target after mobilizing €14 billion in the first half of 2026 alone. The bank's recent activity includes participation in Solaria's €300 million capital increase for clean-energy data centers, wind power, and battery storage, along with financing for two U.S. solar and storage projects.
According to Infralogic, Santander became the world's leading bank in renewable energy finance in 2025 by both transaction count and value, closing 100 deals worth €12.24 billion and capturing a 5.58% market share. The greenfield renewable energy projects the bank financed that year accounted for 16.8 GW of new capacity.
Santander's trajectory signals that green finance targets are becoming a measurable, market-differentiating commitment rather than a background sustainability pledge.
