Pirelli North America has introduced its first internal closed-loop tire recycling program as part of a larger initiative aimed at increasing the integration of recycled and bio-based materials within tire manufacturing operations.

The program centers on reclaiming scrap tires generated at the company’s North American production facilities. Through a partnership with Bolder Industries, the discarded materials are recovered and processed using pyrolysis technology, which converts end-of-life tire waste into reusable raw materials.

The resulting material, ISCC PLUS-certified BolderBlack recovered carbon black (rCB), is then reintegrated into Pirelli’s tire production process across North America. According to the company, the initiative forms part of a broader circular manufacturing strategy focused on building industrial ecosystems capable of transforming production waste into valuable secondary inputs.

Pirelli also noted that recovered carbon black has the potential to partially replace virgin carbon black in tire manufacturing.
