As part of an international exchange with the Nepal-based organization Everest Alliance Nepal, the AKUT Foundation convened a meeting in Istanbul to discuss sustainable approaches to mountaineering and mountain conservation. The event, held at Istanbul Bilgi University’s santralistanbul Campus, brought together mountaineers, environmental advocates, and civil society representatives to address the environmental pressures facing high-altitude regions.

Discussions focused on the ecological impact of increasing mountaineering activity, particularly in sensitive Himalayan environments. Participants emphasized the need for responsible expedition practices, including improved waste management, reduced environmental disturbance, and stronger conservation measures to protect fragile mountain ecosystems.

Speakers highlighted the importance of international cooperation in promoting sustainable mountaineering standards and raising awareness of environmental stewardship in adventure tourism. Moreover, the initiative forms part of the AKUT Foundation’s broader efforts to support global dialogue on preserving mountain landscapes while encouraging environmentally responsible exploration.
