Integrator Fusion Power Plants

Type One Energy Raises $200 Million for Its 400 MW Plant

Type One Energy raised $200 million in a Series B led by Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Clutterbuck Capital, with participation from Lowercarbon Capital, Siemens Energy Ventures and SiteGround Capital. The Knoxville startup, founded in 2019, expects the round to cover roughly half the cost of a 400 MW commercial fusion power plant targeted for 2034.

Type One designs the plant and relies on a bespoke supplier network rather than manufacturing in-house, aiming to reduce required capital. It will build its first two devices at the Tennessee Valley Authority's Bull Run site, with AECOM engineering the plant and Commonwealth Fusion Systems licensing its superconducting magnets.

As fusion startups compete for scarce capital, Type One's integrator approach signals how outsourcing component manufacturing could stretch each funding round further toward commercial power.
