Hydrogen Fuel Cell Ventures
Toyota Joined Daimler and Volvo's Cellcentric Fuel Cell Joint Venture
Adam Harrie — April 10, 2026Toyota has signed a non-binding agreement to join Daimler Trucks and the Volvo Group as an equal shareholder in 'Cellcentric,' a joint venture developing hydrogen fuel cell systems for large heavy-duty vehicles. Toyota brings over 30 years of passenger-car fuel-cell experience to a partnership that already includes two of the world's largest commercial-vehicle manufacturers.
The three-way collaboration will focus on developing and manufacturing fuel cells, the essential components of hydrogen fuel cell trucks, alongside broader system architecture and controls. 'Cellcentric' will continue operating as an independent company serving both on-road and off-road heavy transport vehicles.
As efforts to reduce transportation emissions accelerate, this partnership demonstrates how merging expertise across the hydrogen value chain can help deliver affordable, large-scale fuel cell technology for trucks and other heavy vehicles.
