Honda is expanding its technological innovation beyond automotive applications by partnering with Sierra Space and Tec-Masters to test a high-differential pressure water electrolysis system — a key component of regenerative fuel cell systems — on the International Space Station.

This initiative is part of Honda’s broader vision to develop a regenerative fuel cell system capable of sustaining human life in space, particularly for future lunar habitation. The system is designed to operate in a closed-loop cycle, using solar energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen during the lunar day, then converting those gases back into electricity and water during the lunar night. The approach strives to provide a continuous, renewable energy source while minimizing waste.
