Carbon transport networks are being explored through the UK’s Non-Pipeline Transport Pathfinder, which tests moving captured CO2 by road, rail, and shipping instead of relying solely on pipelines. This approach allows industrial sites in remote or dispersed locations to participate in carbon capture without requiring direct pipeline connections. By introducing more flexible transport options, the system supports a more adaptable carbon management network where emissions can be collected, transferred, and stored across multiple routes.
This model expands access to carbon capture for a wider range of industries, including smaller or geographically isolated emitters. It also creates opportunities for logistics providers, infrastructure developers, and storage operators. As regulations evolve, companies adopting these transport methods early may gain an advantage in meeting emissions targets and aligning with growing low-carbon expectations.
