Octavia Carbon is Implementing a Direct Air Capture Operation in Kenya
Kalin Ned — November 13, 2025References: octaviacarbon
Octavia Carbon, "the Global South's first Direct Air Capture (DAC) company," has implemented direct air capture operations in Kenya. The goal is to "uniquely harness [the country's] renewable energy to capture carbon dioxide from the air for secure storage underground."
Octavia Carbon's direct air capture operation methodology is designed to integrate with local geothermal power infrastructure, aiming to use both the electrical output and the waste heat from these plants to lower the energy costs associated with its process. The captured CO₂ is intended to be injected into the basaltic rock formations of the Kenyan Rift Valley, where a natural mineralization process is expected to securely bind the carbon for extended periods.
As an early mover in its geographical context, the organization also emphasizes a community engagement framework focused on local economic benefits and principles of climate justice.
