Anchor-Tenant Community Solar

Reactivate is expanding anchor-tenant community solar through a multi-year partnership with the Obama Foundation designed to increase access to renewable electricity in Illinois. By serving as an anchor tenant for Reactivate’s solar projects, the Foundation provides predictable demand that helps make the developments financially viable. Remaining capacity can then be offered to low-to-moderate-income households and small businesses through community solar programs, with eligible subscribers able to realize energy cost savings of up to 50% without installing rooftop panels.

The model gives Reactivate a reliable institutional customer while expanding its potential subscriber base across local communities. For the Obama Foundation, the agreement provides lower-cost renewable electricity supporting the Obama Presidential Center. The structure could provide a replicable approach for corporations and nonprofits seeking renewable power while helping developers finance community solar projects and broaden access to lower-cost electricity.
