Industrial Waste Heat Power
Industrial waste heat power is helping heavy industries turn unused thermal energy into on-site electricity without requiring additional fuel. Kanin Energy has raised up to $100 million in equity financing from S2G Investments and Canada Growth Fund to develop, construct and operate waste heat-to-power and other on-site energy projects across Canada and the United States. Its commercial portfolio already includes approximately 50 MW of projects in construction or operation.
Kanin uses established technologies, including organic Rankine cycle turbines, to capture heat normally vented from facilities such as steel mills, cement plants and oil and gas operations. The company's Energy-as-a-Service model removes the need for industrial operators to independently finance and manage these power assets. This approach can provide facilities with below-market baseload electricity while lowering energy waste and associated emissions. The financing gives Kanin additional capital to scale deployments as industries face rising electricity costs and grid constraints.
