Arctic Wind Energy Projects

CIB Financed the Hope Bay Wind Project in Nunavut

The Canada Infrastructure Bank closed a $20 million Hope Bay Wind Project loan to the Kitikmeot Tugliq Limited Partnership, an Inuit-led partnership between the Kitikmeot Inuit Association and Tugliq Energy. The initiative pairs a 4.2 MW wind turbine with a 4 MW battery storage system to provide renewable power to Agnico Eagle's Hope Bay mining operation in Nunavut's Kitikmeot Region.

The project is expected to reduce diesel-based electricity generation by up to 3 million liters annually and cut direct and indirect emissions by approximately 13,000 tons per year, while creating 15 jobs during peak construction and building long-term Inuit employment and skills development opportunities through a profit-sharing model.

The project shows how combining renewable energy with Indigenous partnership models can lower emissions while boosting economic opportunities.
