Battery Energy Storage Systems
Boralex Opened the Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park
Colin Smith — March 5, 2026The Hagersville Battery Energy Storage Park has been commercially commissioned with a nameplate capacity of 300 MW and 1,200 MWh, making it the largest operating battery energy storage facility in Canada. The project was developed jointly by Boralex Inc. and the Six Nations of the Grand River Development Corporation and deploys Tesla Megapack systems across a multi acre site to provide utility scale storage and rapid dispatch capability.
The facility is designed to deliver up to four hours of continuous full power to the Ontario grid, supporting peak shaving, frequency response, and integration of variable renewable generation. Project partners report that the development included local Six Nations labour for civil works and that the asset expands regional storage capacity while advancing operational experience with large scale battery systems. The commissioning has been noted in industry coverage as a milestone for Canada’s energy transition and for collaborative Indigenous partnership in clean energy infrastructure.
