Sustainable Cotton-Focused Projects

M&S Launches a Cotton Biodiversity Project with Pilio

Marks & Spencer (M&S) has partnered with sustainability solutions specialist Pilio to introduce the Affordable Clean Environment (ACE) Cotton programme, a new initiative aimed at promoting sustainable cotton production in India. The program focuses on reducing carbon emissions by expanding access to clean energy and supporting biodiverse farming practices within cotton-growing communities.

Cotton represents the largest share of M&S’s material portfolio, accounting for more than half of its total fibre use. The ACE Cotton programme forms a key part of Plan A, M&S’s broader sustainability strategy, by fostering biodiversity and resilience across the supply chain. The company also seeks to unlock financing for on-farm and off-farm solar technologies, helping lower carbon footprints while strengthening rural communities.
