Sustainable Aviation Agreements
American Airlines & Google Have Struck a Record-Breaking SAF Deal
Adam Harrie — June 11, 2026American Airlines and Google have announced the largest publicly disclosed SAF deal: a sustainable aviation fuel certificate agreement between an airline and a single corporate customer, securing 35 million gallons of SAF over three years. The deal is projected to reduce nearly 300,000 metric tons of CO₂e emissions. The fuel will be sourced from waste feedstocks such as used cooking oil and delivered through existing infrastructure at Chicago O'Hare Airport.
Google will receive environmental credits to help address emissions from employee business travel, while American secured a long-term SAF supply agreement with Valero Marketing and Supply Company.
American Airlines and Google demonstrate how corporate procurement agreements can help accelerate SAF adoption while supporting aviation decarbonization efforts that lead to material changes.
