AI Monitoring Models
Vultr and AMD Has Powered Cambridge's TESSERA Environmental Monitoring Model
Adam Harrie — July 22, 2026Vultr and AMD has announced computational support for the University of Cambridge's TESSERA environmental monitoring model, an AI foundation model that processes European Space Agency satellite data to generate detailed embeddings for every 10-meter square of Earth's land surface from 2017 to 2025. The project runs on Vultr infrastructure powered by AMD Instinct MI325X accelerators and supports applications in agriculture, biodiversity conservation and renewable energy infrastructure tracking.
The embeddings are freely available under a CC BY license, alongside a fully reproducible training pipeline, allowing researchers, governments and organizations worldwide to deploy the technology for region-specific conservation needs.
TESSERA shows how open-access AI infrastructure can democratize planetary-scale environmental monitoring and conservation research that was previously accessible only to well-resourced institutions.
