TDK Ventures Backed C2i to Improve Its AI Data Center Power Efficiency

TDK Ventures invested in C2i Semiconductors as part of a $16.7 million Series A funding round, backing a software-defined voltage-regulator platform targeting more than 96% power-conversion efficiency for AI data center infrastructure. Improving AI data center power-conversion efficiency beyond today’s 94% standard could save approximately $12 million annually in a 100MW data center by running processors up to 4°C cooler and extending the lifespan of expensive hardware.

C2i’s platform targets the growing “Last Inch” power challenge, as upcoming AI chips are projected to demand up to 4,500W by 2028, compared to 700W for the NVIDIA H100 in 2022.

TDK and C2i show how improving power-conversion efficiency at the chip level can deliver energy savings at a scale that measurably reduces the AI era’s overall carbon footprint.
