Zero-Emission Transit Fules

Clean Energy Fuels was awarded a $27.5 million contract to design and build a new hydrogen fueling station for the Orange County Transportation Authority at its Garden Grove bus base, supporting the agency's growing fleet of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell buses. The project includes design-build services, facility upgrades, ongoing operations and maintenance and a liquid hydrogen fuel supply, with completion expected in 2028.

OCTA currently operates 10 hydrogen fuel cell buses alongside battery-electric and compressed natural gas vehicles, with plans to add 40 more hydrogen buses before the new station is completed. The agency is working toward a fully zero-emission bus fleet by 2040, aligning with California's Innovative Clean Transit regulations across a service area covering more than 3.1 million residents.

Clean Energy Fuels shows how dedicated hydrogen infrastructure is becoming essential to scaling zero-emission public transportation beyond pilot programs and supporting long-term fleet transitions.
