Hydrogen Transit Systems

Ballard Power Systems and Solaris Bus & Coach are expanding their long-term partnership through the integration of Ballard’s FCmove®-SC fuel cell engine into Solaris’ next-generation hydrogen buses. The platform improves fuel efficiency, durability, and system simplicity while supporting high-utilization transit routes where battery-electric buses may face operational limitations.

For transit agencies and manufacturers, the system creates a more scalable pathway for hydrogen-powered public transportation. The simplified fuel cell architecture helps reduce total cost of ownership while improving long-range operational reliability for city bus fleets. Ballard’s fleet support services, including operational monitoring and maintenance programs, also strengthen long-term fleet performance and reduce downtime risks for operators. As cities continue investing in zero-emission transportation infrastructure, hydrogen bus platforms could become increasingly important for routes requiring extended range, fast refueling, and consistent all-day transit performance across dense urban networks.
