References: ballard

Ballard Power Systems agreed to acquire GeoPura in a deal valued at approximately $400 million, combining Ballard's fuel cell technology with GeoPura's zero-emission hydrogen power infrastructure spanning hydrogen production, distribution and stationary power generation. The combined platform delivers grid-independent power with 99.9999% uptime to customers including Disney, Microsoft, Netflix and the UK Ministry of Defence.

The acquisition expands Ballard's business model into energy-as-a-service by integrating hydrogen production, logistics, refueling and fuel cell systems to generate higher recurring revenue. GeoPura also holds the UK government's inaugural Hydrogen Allocation Round 1 contract, which guarantees hydrogen production revenues for more than 15 years and provides long-term visibility as the combined company targets profitability by 2028.

The acquisition shows how hydrogen power solutions are evolving into commercially viable energy platforms for mission-critical applications across industries including construction, healthcare and data centers.
