Avangrid & Microsoft Signed Their 140MW DC Bluebird Solar Project Deal

Avangrid signed a power purchase agreement with Microsoft for the 140MW DC Bluebird Solar project in Klickitat County, Washington. The fourth U.S. clean energy deal between the two companies pushes their combined contracted capacity beyond 500MW. The Microsoft solar power purchase agreement covers a $300 million project expected to come online in 2028, creating about 300 construction jobs and contributing approximately $11 million in local property taxes over its lifetime.
Bluebird joins Powell Creek Solar in Ohio and Camino Solar in California, both operational in 2025, while Juniper Canyon Wind is expected to come online later this year.
As tech companies face surging clean energy demand from AI infrastructure, Avangrid and Microsoft show how building a multi-project, multi-state clean energy relationship can create a more dependable supply pipeline than one-off procurement deals.
