Ever.green has completed the 5 megawatt Baron Solar Project in Anson County, North Carolina, with development, ownership and operation led by Headwater Energy. The project reached financial close through long term commitments from a group of Microsoft suppliers that purchased renewable energy certificates to meet Microsoft’s carbon free electricity expectations for its supply chain. These suppliers include Slalom Consulting, Centific Technologies, ImagiCorps, BDA, Eleven 11 Solutions, TASA Analytics and Visionet Systems. Their participation addressed a common barrier for small and mid sized solar projects, which often struggle to secure financing without contracted revenue. Ever.green’s high impact renewable energy certificates provided the revenue certainty needed to advance the project.

The Baron project is now generating electricity for the local grid and contributing to regional clean energy capacity. Ever.green notes that its high impact certificates differ from spot market purchases because they support the development of new clean energy assets rather than existing ones. The project is expected to deliver community level benefits by adding carbon free electricity and supporting local economic activity. Microsoft’s Supplier Code of Conduct requires select suppliers to transition to 100 percent carbon free electricity by 2030, and this initiative demonstrates how collective procurement can help smaller projects move forward.
