Zelestra Began Operations at the Villamañán Solar Project
Colin Smith — March 12, 2026Zelestra has begun full commercial operations at the Villamañán Solar Project, a 19 MWdc photovoltaic facility located in León, Spain. The project was delivered by Zelestra’s internal EPC division and forms part of a long term virtual power purchase agreement with Graphic Packaging International. According to published reports, the plant is expected to generate approximately 28.7 GWh of electricity annually and avoid more than 4,900 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. It is the third project completed under this partnership, following the José Cabrera and Socovos II facilities, bringing the total enabled capacity to more than 100 MWdc.
The project contributed to local employment during construction and supports Spain’s broader clean energy objectives by adding new utility scale solar capacity to the regional grid. Zelestra reports that the Villamañán facility forms part of a larger portfolio that includes 1.1 GW of contracted solar and storage capacity and a development pipeline exceeding 7 GW. The company notes that the project strengthens long term renewable energy supply for its offtaker while contributing to regional economic activity and emissions reduction goals.
