High-Capacity Tactical Batteries

Novacium Doubles Battery Energy With GEN3 Cells

Novacium has developed high-capacity tactical batteries that double the energy available to French Army tactical radios while maintaining compatibility with existing equipment. Delivered to the French Army Technical Section, the prototypes replace conventional 18650 cells with GEN3 21700 cylindrical cells and use an optimized enclosure and adapted battery management system.

The battery provides 144 Wh of energy compared with 72 Wh for the existing model, while energy density rises 63% to 261 Wh/kg. Existing connectors, chargers and interfaces can still be used, limiting the infrastructure changes required for deployment. The increased capacity is intended to provide up to twice the operating time under comparable conditions.

For Novacium, successful field evaluations could create opportunities beyond the initial French Army program. The adaptable design could appeal to allied defense organizations with similar equipment requirements while supporting Novacium's expansion into defense, aerospace and autonomous-system battery markets.
