LibertyStream Has Automated Its Gen 6 Lithium Carbonate Extraction System
Adam Harrie — July 7, 2026LibertyStream commissioned its fully automated Gen 6 lithium carbonate extraction system at its Freedom Launchpad facility, advancing its platform for recovering critical minerals from existing U.S. oil and gas water-handling infrastructure. The system processes brine at 5,000 barrels per day, reducing extraction cycle time to approximately 20 minutes from 60 minutes with the previous generation, while incorporating real-time monitoring of temperature, pressure, flow rates and pH.
The company has already produced and delivered lithium carbonate for customer evaluation, securing a 600-tonne-per-year offtake agreement beginning in 2027. Its first commercial-scale Freedom 1 facility, designed to produce 1,000 tonnes annually, remains on track to be commissioned by the end of 2026.
LibertyStream shows how extracting critical minerals from existing energy infrastructure could provide a lower-cost, lower-impact alternative to conventional mining.
