Strategic Alliance Crop Biofuels
Bayer & bp Partner to Scale & Commercialize Camelina for Biofuels
Adam Harrie — May 11, 2026Bayer and bp launched a strategic alliance to scale and commercialize camelina as a feedstock for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel, combining Bayer’s seed technology and farmer network with bp’s refining and fuel expertise. The partnership will scale camelina production in North America under the newgold® brand to meet growing demand for low-carbon fuels.
Camelina is designed to serve as an intermediate or rotational crop, capable of growing on marginal or underutilized land while requiring fewer inputs. The crop offers farmers flexibility to generate additional revenue without displacing food production, and testing is underway across US and Canadian growing regions.
Bayer and bp show how aligning seed innovation with fuel production infrastructure can build a scalable supply chain for low-carbon fuels without competing with primary agricultural output.
