Hawaiian Electric Has Launched Its Major Renewable Energy Plan

Hawaiian Electric has submitted its Integrated Grid Planning Request for Proposals, launching a renewable energy procurement effort seeking nearly 1,650 gigawatt-hours of variable renewable energy and 465 megawatts of grid-forming solar-plus-battery storage across Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi Island and Maui. The solicitation ranks among the utility's largest-ever energy procurements, with projects targeted to enter service between 2031 and 2034.
The plan includes retiring aging power plants sooner by accelerating the deployment of modern firm generation capacity and represents significant progress toward Hawaii's statewide goal of achieving 100% renewable electricity generation by 2045.
