Methane-Derived Aviation Fuels

Infinium Converts Qualified Methane Streams into Lower-Carbon SAF

Methane-derived aviation fuels are expanding low-carbon fuel pathways as Infinium introduces mSAF, a platform that converts renewable natural gas, biogas, flare gas, and other qualified methane streams into sustainable aviation fuel. The platform combines Infinium’s Synthesize technology with Reform, an electric steam methane reformer that uses renewable electricity rather than burning feed gas to generate process heat. This approach keeps more feedstock carbon available for conversion while avoiding reforming-related combustion emissions and increasing fuel yield.

For aviation and fuel producers, mSAF broadens the range of feedstocks and locations that can support lower-carbon fuel projects, complementing Infinium’s existing CO2-based eSAF business. Using methane streams already aggregated at landfills, dairies, wastewater facilities, and gas-gathering systems could create additional commercial uses for these resources. Infinium will calculate and independently certify lifecycle carbon intensity for each individual project.
