SkyNRG and KLM Broke Ground on Its DSL-01 SAF Plant

SkyNRG and KLM began construction on 'DSL-01,' the Netherlands' first facility dedicated to producing sustainable aviation fuel, marking the first commercial-scale SAF plant globally to secure non-recourse project financing. KLM serves as the primary off-taker for the fuel produced, with its long-term offtake commitment playing a key role in enabling the project's financing.
Once operational in 2028, the Delfzijl facility is expected to produce approximately 100,000 tonnes of SAF annually from low-quality feedstocks such as used cooking oil, processed through the HEFA pathway to deliver significantly lower lifecycle emissions than conventional jet fuel.
The project received a €16 million subsidy from the European Just Transition Fund, supporting Northern Netherlands' shift away from its historically gas-dependent economy while creating more than 100 direct jobs.
