Sustainable Aviation Fuel Platforms
Air Canada & Airbus Launched Its SAF Co-Investment Platform
Adam Harrie — July 22, 2026Air Canada and Airbus announced plans to establish a jointly funded SAF Co-Investment Platform, committing up to C$13.7 million to support the development of a commercial-scale Canadian sustainable aviation fuel industry. The investment aims to accelerate a jointly selected SAF project toward a Final Investment Decision.
Airbus also signed a five-year agreement under Air Canada's Leave Less Travel Program, purchasing SAF environmental attributes tied to more than 60,000 liters of fuel to offset emissions from employee business travel. A companion study found that scaling domestic SAF to meet 40% of Canada's aviation fuel demand by 2040 could add $32 billion to national GDP.
Air Canada and Airbus show how industry co-investment can help catalyze a domestic SAF ecosystem before broader market demand fully materializes.
