Waste-Derived Aviation Fuel
Singapore Airlines has signed an agreement to buy up to 4,800 tonnes of sustainable aviation fuel from Aether Beacon over three years, with deliveries starting in 2028. It is the first airline to purchase fuel from Project Beacon, Aether's commercial facility under development on Pulau Bukom in Singapore.
Project Beacon will use feedstocks such as biomethane and industrial waste gases to make fuel with Aether's Aurora technology, an alternative to pathways that rely on constrained lipid-based feedstocks. The fuel will be certified under CORSIA, and Aether plans a plant at least 10 times larger by 2031.
As airlines pursue net zero by 2050, the deal signals how committed offtake can help new waste-to-fuel pathways reach commercial scale.
