Combined Carbon Removal Purchases
A new partnership with Terradot will deliver 1 million metric tons of methane elimination by 2030 and 1 million metric tons of permanent carbon removal by 2040, marking the largest carbon removal purchase to date and the first publicly announced project that combines both approaches within a single agricultural system. The project spans more than 200,000 hectares of rice farms in southern Brazil.
Terradot will help farmers adopt Alternate Wetting and Drying, an irrigation practice that periodically drains flooded paddies to immediately reduce methane emissions, while spreading crushed volcanic rock across the same fields to permanently remove CO2 through Enhanced Rock Weathering as the rock dissolves over time.
This project offers a replicable blueprint for combining both timelines within existing agricultural systems, with potential to scale across Brazil's 1.5 million hectares of rice cultivation and beyond.
