Municipal Solar Financing Models

Sustainability Partners Funds Albuquerque's 6 MW Solar Project

Municipal solar financing models are expanding access to renewable energy as Sustainability Partners works with Albuquerque and Energy Systems Group to deploy approximately 6 MW of solar generation across eight city facilities. The project combines rooftop and solar carport installations, while Albuquerque International Sunport will also receive battery energy storage and 10 EV chargers. Through Sustainability Partners’ Infrastructure as a Service model, the company provides project capital and supports installation and long-term maintenance, while the City makes monthly usage payments once systems become operational.

The structure allows municipalities to pursue large energy projects without covering the full upfront infrastructure cost. Long-term maintenance support can also help address operational and performance concerns after installation. For Sustainability Partners, the Albuquerque deployment demonstrates how service-based financing can support larger public-sector energy projects while creating recurring payment relationships with municipal customers.
