Solar Canopy Projects
Ventura County partnered with ForeFront Power to develop a 7.7 MW-DC solar canopy and storage project across Parking Lots A through F at the County Government Center, combining a 5.8 MW solar canopy with 1.9 MW of battery storage.
The project ranks among the largest solar canopy and storage installations in California. It is expected to generate nearly 9 million kWh annually, enough to power more than 1,500 homes and offset more than half of the facility's energy consumption. Developed at no upfront cost through a 20-year power purchase agreement, ForeFront Power will own and maintain the system while charging the County a fixed rate below utility rates. The agreement is projected to save more than $21 million over its duration.
The project demonstrates how pairing on-site solar generation with battery storage can deliver measurable energy savings, reduce operating costs and support emissions reductions.
