The Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy is advancing the Noor Atlas solar programme as part of its national strategy to expand distributed renewable generation across rural and semi urban regions. The programme consists of a series of small to medium scale photovoltaic plants designed to increase energy access, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and support Morocco’s broader decarbonisation objectives. According to public reporting, the Noor Atlas projects are being developed in multiple provinces and are structured to provide reliable electricity while strengthening local grid stability. The initiative forms one component of Morocco’s long term plan to raise the share of renewables in its national energy mix.

The programme also reflects the country’s approach to diversifying solar deployment beyond large centralised facilities by incorporating regional projects that can be built more quickly and integrated into local infrastructure. These plants are expected to contribute to economic development through job creation and improved energy services in participating areas. The Noor Atlas initiative aligns with Morocco’s commitment to expanding solar capacity under its national energy strategy and supports ongoing efforts to enhance resilience and sustainability within the power sector.
