Clean Energy Training Developments
The Renewable Energy TAFE Centre Will Support Clean Energy
Colin Smith — April 28, 2026Victoria will establish a new Renewable Energy TAFE Centre of Excellence to support the state’s transition toward its 95 percent renewable energy target by 2035. The centre is designed to serve as a national leader in clean energy training, with a focus on emerging forms of energy generation, infrastructure, and grid technologies. It will use digital training tools and virtual reality to simulate real operating conditions and provide students with practical experience in areas such as offshore wind, smart grids, and advanced energy systems. TAFE Gippsland will lead the initiative from its Morwell campus, supported by a consortium that includes South West TAFE, Holmesglen Institute, and Federation TAFE. The Australian and Victorian Governments are jointly investing 50 million dollars to establish the centre.
The Centre of Excellence will operate alongside the newly opened Clean Energy Centre at TAFE Gippsland, which offers hands-on training with solar technologies, battery systems, and hybrid and electric vehicles. The facility includes modern equipment and simulation environments that allow students to develop skills aligned with industry needs. This investment aims to expand the clean energy workforce by creating new training pathways and supporting apprenticeships across the state. The combined initiatives are intended to strengthen Victoria’s capacity to meet future labour demands in renewable energy and contribute to long term economic development in regional areas.
