Endangered Species Funds

The Bezos Earth Fund and Re:wild launched the 'Phoenix Species Project' with a $200 million commitment, marking the largest single philanthropic initiative dedicated exclusively to recovering critically endangered species. The project targets 100 species across mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds, fish, invertebrates and plants in 30 countries, working alongside Indigenous Peoples, local communities and conservationists.

Funded equally by the Bezos Earth Fund and Re:wild, with additional support from Leonardo DiCaprio, Age of Union and the Todd Graves Family Foundation, the initiative provides sustained, multi-year investment rather than short-term grants. It partners with more than 100 local and international organizations to tailor recovery strategies, including conservation breeding, translocations and habitat restoration.

This initiative signals how large-scale, sustained philanthropic funding could shift conservation from managing decline toward genuine species recovery at a meaningful global scale.
