Biogas-Derived Aviation Fuels

Agra Energy Converts Dairy Farm Biogas into Sustainable Fuel

Agra Energy has demonstrated carbon-reusing fuel systems that transform dairy-farm biogas into sustainable aviation fuel and renewable naphtha. Unlike conventional processes that separate and release carbon dioxide, the company's approach incorporates it into fuel production. Using HYCO1's CORE Catalyst, the system converts carbon dioxide and renewable natural gas into synthesis gas, a mixture used to manufacture liquid fuels.

At its New Franken, Wisconsin, facility, Agra Energy achieved commercial operating maturity, reaching Technology Readiness Level 9. The process increases fuel yield by more than 20% while reducing the need for additional gas treatment, helping conserve energy and equipment costs.

This achievement positions Agra Energy to license its technology and develop additional facilities. The company is targeting plants producing 150 to 250 barrels daily, with plans to contract 1,000 barrels of daily production capacity in 2027.
