Hydrogen-Powered Event Systems

Ballard and GeoPura Supply Cleaner Power for Live Events

Hydrogen-powered event systems are becoming a practical electricity source for large entertainment venues, with Ballard Power Systems and GeoPura expanding their use across major festivals and sporting events. Their Hydrogen Power Units use fuel cells to generate electricity without producing carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides or particulate emissions at the point of use, helping improve air quality around performers, crews and audiences.

At Boomtown 2026, GeoPura supplied electricity throughout preparations and performances at a stage accommodating 20,000 attendees. Similar systems supported Edinburgh Summer Sessions, the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands and the Genesis Scottish Open, demonstrating their versatility across entertainment and sports.

Growing repeat deployments suggest stronger commercial interest in alternatives to diesel generators. GeoPura's managed service combines hydrogen delivery, equipment and operational support, allowing organizers to access dependable temporary electricity while creating opportunities for wider adoption across international event markets.
