Turbine Factory Expansions

Mitsubishi Power Invests $490 Million to Expand Its Savannah Factory

Mitsubishi Power Americas plans to expand its Savannah Machinery Works facility, a U.S. manufacturing and service center for advanced-class gas turbines, steam turbines and power generation equipment. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will support the expansion with a $490 million investment, which will add 450,000 square feet to the existing site.

The project will create more than 220 new jobs and add machining capacity, advanced manufacturing technologies and increased material flow efficiency. The company signed an expansion framework agreement with the Savannah Economic Development Authority, with port and rail access at the intersection of I-95 and I-16.

As power demand grows, this expansion signals how domestic equipment manufacturing capacity could shorten supply chains for utilities and developers building new generation, while giving the Savannah region more skilled manufacturing work.
