Industrial Solar Energy Projects
Ørsted is expanding industrial solar energy projects with the start of construction on Blackwater Solar, a 200 MW development in Roosevelt County, New Mexico. The project will generate enough electricity to match the annual consumption of more than 56,000 homes and is supported by a long-term power purchase agreement addressing growing industrial electricity demand. Ørsted is also using solar panels sourced from U.S. manufacturer First Solar.
Expected to begin commercial operations in late 2027, Blackwater Solar combines large-scale power generation with local economic and conservation benefits. Ørsted expects the project to contribute nearly $18 million in property tax revenue to Roosevelt County over its operating life. The company is also providing $100,000 to Playa Lakes Joint Venture to restore an 8.8-acre wetland nearby. For Ørsted, the project establishes a presence in New Mexico while expanding its U.S. renewable energy portfolio and serving industrial electricity needs.
