Utility-Scale Solar Projects

Utility-scale solar projects are expanding Michigan’s renewable energy capacity as NorthStar Clean Energy completes the 120 MW Hart Solar Project in Oceana County. The facility is expected to generate more than 200 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power over 21,000 homes while avoiding an estimated 96,000 metric tons of CO2 emissions each year. Long-term purchase agreements with Executive Energy Services and the Michigan Public Power Agency connect the project with energy customers across the state.

Beyond renewable generation, Hart Solar demonstrates how large solar developments can combine energy production with measurable economic benefits. The project created more than 300 construction jobs, while Hart Township received roughly $600,000 for community improvements. Through the project, Oakland Schools and 45 other public school districts are also projected to save approximately $25 million over a 10-year agreement, demonstrating how renewable procurement can pair emissions reductions with long-term cost management.
