Utility-Scale Solar Projects
OCI Energy and Arava Power are developing utility-scale solar projects to expand renewable electricity capacity in high-demand power markets. Their 347 MWdc SunRoper Solar project in Wharton County, Texas, is now under construction and is expected to begin operations in December 2027. Located near the Houston metropolitan area, the facility will supply electricity to a Fortune 100 company through a long-term power purchase agreement while adding new generation capacity to the ERCOT market.
From a business perspective, SunRoper demonstrates how corporate energy procurement can provide long-term demand for large renewable power developments. The project brings together OCI Energy and Arava Power as developers, ING as the financing partner and WHC as the construction contractor. Its proximity to a major electricity demand center could also help support Texas’ growing power requirements while expanding both developers’ utility-scale renewable energy portfolios.
