Energy Trading Software Acquisitions

Mitsubishi Electric Has Acquired PCI Energy Solutions

Mitsubishi Electric agreed to acquire PCI Energy Solutions for $1.4 billion, taking full ownership of the U.S.-based enterprise software provider serving utilities, public power entities and independent power producers across North America. PCI's mission-critical platform supports power trading, generation and transmission operations, supply-demand planning, risk management and settlement for a broad spectrum of wholesale market participants.

The acquisition responds to growing complexity in power-system operations driven by continued renewable energy growth, expanding distributed energy resources, rising electricity demand and increasing market volatility. PCI will become a wholly owned Mitsubishi Electric subsidiary upon completion, expected later in 2026 pending regulatory approval.

This acquisition signals how energy management software is becoming essential infrastructure for helping utilities and market participants navigate increasingly complex forecasting, trading and operational decision-making across a rapidly evolving electricity landscape.
